This is my first time in Germany, never mind Munich, and my experience here has been nothing less than wonderful.

While I may speak very little German, the people here have been kind and welcoming.

My friends and I head to Munich just for a short while to spend a birthday in Munich during Oktoberfest.

Where I am from in Canada, we have the second largest Oktoberfest in the world. I can confidently say now that in comparison, well, you cant really compare the two at all.

While most people at Oktoberfest are all dressed up in their typical Bavarian gear, and every dress is more beautiful than the next, my friends and I dont have a dirdl or any sort of German outfit to wear to the Oktoberfest, so we went in my jeans and a nice top, like we would wear out at home. We never felt out of place though.

The hardest part about Oktoberfest is finding a table. Many tables are reserved and the barmaids will only serve you if youre sitting at (or standing on) a table. It may take a bit of searching and going to different tents depending on how late you go, but eventually youll find a table and will be able to join in the celebrations.

My Munich Hotel Monaco was not far from the Octoberfestival

Most people will try to shove over and let you join them if they can.
The beers are a bit expensive at 8 euros, but once you see how big they are they dont seem all that much.

With everyone cheering and singing and having an all around good time, you cant help but have a ton of fun. Its a great chance to make friends from all around the world, and make memories with your friends.
At one point, some German friends we met managed to get us on the grandstand where the band is playing.

It was so exciting to be up there with the musicians and see all the people dancing on tables and cheering. Everyone is there to have fun.

Blade night is a great highlight in the city and it is impossible to imagine a summer without a Skate night.

The routes go through the whole city centre. This night is suitable for enthusiastic, sporty people of all ages. You can enjoy “your city” smog-free for two hours!

Since 1999 this event takes place and counts to one of the biggest events in this vein in Europe. Road-blockings, numerous assistants and the police taking care for a smooth activity. We recommend our “sporty guests” of Hotel Monaco to join in the Blade night!

You have a lot of possibilities to hire roller-skates in the city. Use this chance to be part of this fabulous night until 14. September 2009!

Everyone who has been to Ireland or grew up there knows how special that country is. Irish music, dancing, …captures your heart right away. I’ve been there 5 years ago but the positive feeling I’m connecting with this country has never stopped. For those who are a bit homesick (me as well), but can’t leave Munich at the moment, there is a great alternative. The Green Farm Festival at the outskirts of Munich gives you a great idea of the Irish way of life. For 5€ a day or 10€ for the whole weekend (19-21.6.) you can watch the Tir na nOg Dance Academy or the Emerald dancers, take part in the election of the “Rose of Tralee” (but you need to have Irish roots for that) or listen to Sarah McQuaid and many others. Taking part in dancing lessons under the blue sky on dry summer grass is just great fun. The only negative point is the peripheral location. You have to take the S-Bahn to Halbergmoos, which is close to the airport, and from there a Shuttlebus leaves all 20 Minutes for the festival area. But the long trip is worth it. You can also camp there the whole weekend, what I’m planning to do for next year. I hope I will have time then. *thumps up*
See you on the 19th. A good alternative is to sleep in the Hotel Monaco, just close the main trainstation in the center of Munich
Greets Franzi

A hugh parade opens things up with each of munichs six breweried entering a beer wagon pulled by a dozen. Hugh horses all decked out beaufifully and sitting in the wagon are men and women, sampling the fine brew of each.

The parade went for hours; I think the whole city came out.

We walked to the fairgrounds where there are at least six tents holding, thousend of people. We could not even get in, so we walked back to town and went into the Hofbräuhaus up to the third floor.

The band was playing and everybody singing and having a good time.

After a few liters of beer we retiered to our Munich hotel to watch the fun on televison, prost!
