17-6-09 We loved the Hotel Monaco in Munich. We found the hotel based on high ratings in Trip Advisor and reccommendations from Rick Steves. A great advantage is that it is just a block away from the main train station in Munich, which makes it very easy to take day trips out of the area using the Hotel Monaco as a base. We were greeted with a smile which made us feel right at home. Our room, as well as the dining room is very light and has a cheerful decor. The breakfast was wonderful and had several choices from the marmaldes, variety of cheeses, breads, fruits, and more. My wife and daughter found the hard boiled eggs wrapped in rabbit puppets, with happy faces painted on them, one of their favorites. The coffee is nice and strong to wake you up in the morning. The beds are very comfortable and the Hotel Monaco is family-oriented. The bed comforters were very soft. The hotel rooms have windows which alllowed us to have a nice breeze in the evening. The staff happily accommodated our requests. We would not hesitate to stay here again.. Thanks for everything!

Saturday, June 6th, 2009Everyone who has been to Ireland or grew up there knows how special that country is. Irish music, dancing, …captures your heart right away. I’ve been there 5 years ago but the positive feeling I’m connecting with this country has never stopped. For those who are a bit homesick (me as well), but can’t leave Munich at the moment, there is a great alternative. The Green Farm Festival at the outskirts of Munich gives you a great idea of the Irish way of life. For 5€ a day or 10€ for the whole weekend (19-21.6.) you can watch the Tir na nOg Dance Academy or the Emerald dancers, take part in the election of the “Rose of Tralee” (but you need to have Irish roots for that) or listen to Sarah McQuaid and many others. Taking part in dancing lessons under the blue sky on dry summer grass is just great fun. The only negative point is the peripheral location. You have to take the S-Bahn to Halbergmoos, which is close to the airport, and from there a Shuttlebus leaves all 20 Minutes for the festival area. But the long trip is worth it. You can also camp there the whole weekend, what I’m planning to do for next year. I hope I will have time then. *thumps up*

Munich and the Hofbraeuhaus
Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009My last day in Munchen.
Tody, I will do my last tour in Munchen. The temperature is good in June and the sun is in the rendez-vous. I will come back to a nice place called Hofbraouhaus (not far from the city hall), a typical bavarian brasserie for drinking good beers. I advice you to order 1/2 liter instead of one litre. If you feel strong to drink one litre, it is better to order two glasses of half litres instead of one in order to drink the second one in good temperture. I really enjoyed Hofbraaouhaus because you can also order good food with reasonnable price: the brasserie is a little bit noisy, but it seems that this is the way of drinking beers here.
In terms of hotel with reasonable prices and good services and breakfasts, I advice you hotel Monaco near the central station. The room is clean and the reception is kind, You should share the toilets and bathroom. But they have also rooms with private shower and toilette inside the rooms.
In Munchen, some men still wear traditional bavarian clothes: bermudas, hat with feathers, leather pants etc. Some old men hair their moustche in a special funny way. The first day, I thought that this was an advertisement for stupid tourists like me. But after a while, I understood that these men are not actors, but real men living in Munchen since generations. They are proud men.
Many italin restaurants and ice cream shops are located in Munchen. While it is good to take italian ice cream (because german ones are not as good), I advice you to go to bavarian brasseries for eating. You would be a real stupid tourist like me if you visit Munchen and you go to eat a pizza or attend hard rock cafe: go to drink a good beer and eat german food.
Walking inside the city is pleasant: old buildings and modern building a set up with harmony. The architecture of old buildings is somehow like in Netherland. In some old building, I felt that dragons may go out purshased with wishes and knights.
German people are really disciplined (trust me, it is like what you think), I enjoyed their discipline. However, during night, numerous cafe broadcats football and german men drink beer in front of the game. Football seems important in gemany.

Biketour for sightseing Munich
Wednesday, May 27th, 2009This city really is quite a bit of fun when the weather is right – nearly the whole day today was filled with sunshine, until the weather produced a thunderstorm that made getting to dinner a bit wet and dark. I highly recommend renting a bike for the daytime on your trip and biking around to all of the sites you want to see in and around the city. In very little time
(<5 hours) my group was able to see much of the city – from the Nymphenburger castle to the Olympic Park and on to the English Gardens. Also, the Glockenschpiel is a site to see, but do not worry about trying to see it more than once – only the number of times the bells chime changes on the hours. The view from the tower at St. Peter’s in Marienplatz is beautiful; you get the full 360 degree view of the city in one stop. However, this is not for the faint of heart/stomach, as the viewing space at the top is quite high and the hike up the 14 floors worth of stairs can be a bit tight at times between sightseers going up and down.

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009We arrived in Munich last night as a family on the train from Interlaken, Switzerland. This is my first time in Europe, I haved lived in the United States my entire life. To see the city, we rented bicycles in the morning and took the reccomended path around the city center, over to the Nymphenburg Palace, up to the Olympic Park, and finally to the English Gardens. Though we found ourselves lost or riding in the wrong direction more than once, it was a spectacular way to explore the city. As a swimmer, I enjoyed visiting the pool Mark Spitz competed in during the 1972 Olympic Games. Though I am terrified of heights, I was convinced to climb the 14 stories of steps of the St. Peters church; the view was spectacular.
Unfortuntely, a storm moved in during the evening right before we went to dinner. To avoid the rain and lightning, we figured out the subway system and made our way to the Haufbrogh House for a delicious meal. Once the rain receded to a drizzle, we ventured out to Hagendaas for a little ice cream.
Though we are only in Munich until early tomorrow, I have immensely injoyed the experience and hope to return for a longer period of time in a few years.
First stay in Munich
Tuesday, May 26th, 2009I am from Delware on the East Coast of the United States. This is the first time I have visited Munich or Germany. I arrived today after visiting Interlaken in Switzland. We took a very long train ride to Munich that lasted almost seven hours. We finally arrived in Munich and checked into our wonderful Hotel Monaco. Then, I ate knockwerst for the first time for dinner and it was delicious. We then walked to a park and saw many people in the beer garden having a wonderful time. We then walked to the center of town and saw the outside of many churches and the Glockenspiel. Tomorrow, I hope to see the insides on the churches and go up in the towers of some. Also, I hope to bike around the city and see the toy museum. Additionally, we plan on listening and seeing the Glockenspiel time at 17:00 before heading to the Hofbraehaus for dinner. Sadly, the next day, we will leave Munich to go and see the castles and then head to Austria for more sight seeing.
Short stay in Munich
Monday, May 25th, 2009We have only two days to stay in Munich and so many things to do. We arrived early by train yesterday. Hotel Monaco is very convenient to the train station.. and our room was ready! That allowed us to unpack quickly and head back on the train to visit the Dachau monument.
Today, we have had a wonderful breakfast in the sunny room and we are planning to pick up bikes (again, from the train station) and head for the large parks around the outer edges of Munich. It looks like it should be a beautiful day for that.
This is one of the largest rooms we have had in our two week stay in Germany. We love having free internet access for the laptop we dragged across the Atlantic. The room is clean. And the staff has been very friendly and helpful.
No more time for typing… we must get going…

Munich – no free parking space
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009My wife and I spent 5 nights at Hotel Monaco and then returned for final night before flying home from Munich. I have no complaints about our experience here. The rooms are clean and the staff is friendly. There is 24 hour access for guests even though they lock the main door to the building after about 10 at night. We came back late a number of times and never had any problem. There was always someone at the reception desk to let us in. They even had an umbrella to lend us on a rainy day. The hotel is about 5 minutes walk from the city center which is where we spent most of our time while in Munich. There is tons of stuff to do in and around the downtown area and because the hotel is so close, we never had to deal with taxis or the train. Having pleasant people running the hotel you’re staying in cannot be beat. There was never any hassle about check-in or check-out times and there were no hidden charges or extra fees. The price we booked online was the price we paid. The only problem around here is that there is no free parking. There is a garage about a block away which is 17 euros a day. It’s 15 euros with a Hotel Monaco stamp on your parking ticket but our experience was that the teller at the garage was on an endless break so we had to pay 17 a couple of times. All in all I’d definitely recommend this hotel and we’d stay here again if/when we return to Munich.

Munich, a convenient location
Tuesday, May 5th, 2009My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Monaco. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was great! We had a double with twin beds and it was very clean and spacious. The beds had comfortable pillows and comforters. The deco was simple which allowed us plenty of space for our luggage. The windows even opened easily for some fresh air. The bathroom was also spacious with a wonderful shower with lots of hot water and good water pressure. It is in an easy to find location close to the train station and a short walk to many attractions. Highly recommended!!
Munich has so much to do, I wish we had longer to stay. We were here only 4 days and that wasn,t enough There are so many wonderful museums and shopping. There are also so many places to take side tours to – it is such a convenient location! We took side trips to Dachau and Salzburg wish were well worth the time. We are the typical Americans who went on the sound of music tour. I will have to return to see ll that i missed!

Some years ago now, I was born and bought up in Perth, Western Australia.
For some many years, I have made Scotland, my home.
Along with my passion for all things Celtic CFC, My family, my career, my life, is all in Glasgow.
Today I am in Munchen, capital of Barvaria. Residing at the warmest, sweetest and most friendly little hotel in Munich, The Hotel Monaco.
I have stayed here previous, hence my return. A lovely feel, a genuine warm atmosphere about The Monaco Hotel.
Thanks to Christina, the proprieiter and her wonderful staff.
Great not only for the tourist person, like me, but also the familly, the business person, couples, lovers.
If you ever come and stay, you will see!!
Today the weather not so bright. Pity, for it has been recorded the sunniest and warmest April in many a year for Munich.
I love Munich, the bars, the shops, the people, thier friendliness and ever so keen to assist you, always prevailing.
I love her culture, her museums and galleries. So, so much history here.
Munich is not a large city, with an excellent public transport infrastructure. Trams, U bhan, S Bhan. And cycles. I have borrowed a friends cycle these past 2 days, and it is really quiet amazing the ground, the places you can get to, at easy reach with very few hills. a flat inner city.
Today I am going back out to the Olympic Centre, the holding of the Olympic Games 1972.
A swim awaits me in the original Olympic swimming pool. Normally I swim like how Schumacher use to drive in the wet, fast! But today, I will swim slowly, casually and savour every moment of just being there in the fmous Olympic Swimming pool and listen out for the roar of champions past.
Anyway, I am on my Holidays. Serious sports begins again on my return to Glasgow!
By then I will be missing Munich and The Monarch, yet looking so very much forward to returning again.
