Fishfountain (Fischbrunnen)
The Fischbrunnen can be found directly on the Marienplatz in front of the entrance of the new town hall. 1886 it was build by Konrad Knoll, but nothing remained after WW II. In the 1950s it was completely renewed an rebuilt by Josef Henselmann. Although it doesn’t look the same as it had before WW II a very important tradition has been kept alive. Every year on Ash Wednesday the mayor washes his empty purse in this fountain to achieve that the cities till is full during the next year. This tradition dates back till 1426.Back to Munich glossary
