Hotel Munich glossary: Oktoberfest (Oktoberfestival)
First time the Oktoberfest took place in 1810 as a horse race with shooting matches and stock-exhibitions on the occasion of the wedding of the crown prince Ludwig with princess Therese.From 1811 they celebrated it on the place of Theresienwiese. After the First World War the horse race disappeared and because of the bad weather they changed the dates into September. Today the biggest folk festival has takes 16 days and ends always with the first Sunday in October. Around 6 million visitors from all over the world come to Munich to celebrate the “Wies´n” like the locals call it. Every year they drink several million Maß of beer and eat hundred thousand of chickens.
The Munich Hotel Monaco is just about ten walking minutes from the great Octoberfestival.
