Hellabrunn Zoo

The first "geo-zoo" in the world with approximately 460 species is one of the most famous attractions of Munich. The oldest Geo-Zoo of the word invites you to a tour of the park. It is an idyllic nature island within the landscape conservation area of the Isar. The zoo is divided into continents according to the Geo-zoo concept which results in 15 park areas in an area of 36 hectares. Get an overview over one of the most beautiful zoos with its precious animals and generous enclosures.
In 1911 the foundation stone for the first geographical zoo in the world was laid. “Geo-Zoo” means that the vivariums are arranged due to their continents and that they are very similar to the natural living conditions of the animals concerned. On the area of the castle Hellabrunn the world’s first Geo-Zoo was built. Today the Zoo Hellabrunn is one of the best-stocked zoos in Europe, with over 5000 animals living there.
