Munich public transportation system
Munich has one of the best public transportation system all over Germany.
In Munich the S-Bahns and underground trains along with the buses and trams make up an extensive public transport network.
Day and night. All the services run under the umbrella of the MVV which means one ticket is valid for all. MVV transports 1.5 million people to all corners of the city every day.
The Munich public transport system is divided into four zones. Each zone is subdivided into four rings so there are 16 rings in total. The prices for single tickets and strip tickets depend on how many zones you travel across. All other ticket prices (such as yearly, monthly or weekly commuter passes) are dependent on how many rings you cross.
The entire inner city - and even at bit further - counts as one zone (white zone/inner zone). A single ticket for a ride within one zone costs 2.20 Euro. Short trips (up to four stops but no more than two by S-Bahn or underground) cost 1.10 Euro.
Before you start your journey, you have to validate your ticket in one of the ticket stamping machines.
