Hotel Munich glossary: Frauenkirche
Frauenkirche (full name Dom zu unserer lieben Frau, "Cathedral of Our Blessed Lady") was begun in 1469 on the site of a much older church and was completed after 20 years. This majestically somber building is capped with twin towers. The south tower can be climbed and offers a unique view of Munich and the nearby Alps.
In spite of massive bombings these towers escaped Allied bombardments during World War II. They now serve as landmarks on Munich's skyline and have also become a symbol of the city.
The Frauenkirche is located just right in the city center inside the pedestrian zone and only about seven walking minutes away from the Monaco Hotel.
