Hotel Munich glossary: Museum of Ethnology

Munich State Museum of Ethnology ()means Staatliches Museum für Völkerkunde München, was founded in 1868. The first collectors of art pieces and objects from outside Europe, which are a part of the museum's collections now, were members of the Wittelsbacher family, the royal dynasty of Bavaria. Today the museum is the second largest in Germany,  with a collection of 150.000 pieces and an exhibition area of 4.500 qm. The museum has his own security staff for the building as well as for the exhibitions. A meeting- and conference-room with a stage for music and dance is to be found in the first floor and on the second floor you find the permanent exhibitions for Art and Culture of the Americas and of Africa.
